Zen and the Art of Happiness
The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure
Chris Prentiss
Prentiss is the founder of Passages Malibu and incenses the recovery community with the premise of addiction cure, but what he says makes sense. He lays out the entire Passages program so you can replicate it with your own providers. At a cost much less than the $87,000/ month they charge there. Regardless of your issues, Zen and the Art of Happiness is a great little book and an easy read. I recommend it to all of my clients. It's focus is on expecting good things to happen, rather than the alternative. In the 1st chapter Prentiss asks if you'd like the following statement to be true: "Everything that happens to me is the best possible thing that could have happened to me and it's entirely intended for my benefit." Even the "bad stuff". The book shows you how that philosophy could be key in becoming happy.

This book is out of print, but you can find used copies on Amazon. Google Play also sells an electronic copy of the book for $2.61. I carry it on my iPhone and iPad.
